The Wood Strips 木條
60 x 560 cm | wood strip | 2019
For some time, I was crazy about framing my sketches and photos. From the beginning of cutting and sanding the wood strips to hanging up the framed work on the wall, I found it very ritualistic. It also brought respectful meaning to those works that used to lay in the folder.
“Do people notice the frame while looking at a work?” I was always curious about what we would see without the image in the center of the work. I considered changing the center part into a dent or bulge shape or rearrange the frames. Eventually, having the center and the frame coherent seemed more balanced to me. Yet, I shortened the space between frames so that the viewer will not be able to read through the center. By doing that, the work guided people to the field of potential subjects.
